AI Maturity Model

Where is your business today — and what does it take to reach the next level?

1
AI Aware
“We know AI is coming, but we haven’t started.”
2
AI Ready
“Our knowledge is organized. We’ve run one experiment.”
3
AI Capable
“AI supports specific workflows. We measure results.”
4
AI Mature
“AI is integrated into operations. We’re scaling what works.”
5
AI Native
“AI is how we think and operate. Continuous improvement.”
You’re only as mature as your weakest dimension.

A business with great processes but no governance is stuck at the governance level. A business with clean data but a team that fears AI can’t move until the fear is addressed. The bottleneck dimension sets your true level — everything else is potential waiting on permission.

02The five dimensions
Information ReadinessIs your business knowledge documented and findable?
Process ClarityAre your workflows mapped? Does everyone know who does what?
Decision GovernanceAre approval rules clear? Can decisions happen without you?
Team CapabilityDoes your team understand AI? Are they curious or afraid?
Tool FoundationIs your data clean? Do your systems work together?
03What this means for you
1
You can’t skip levels. Each level creates the conditions for the next. Deploying AI before organizing your information fails — not because the AI is bad, but because the foundation doesn’t exist.
2
Speed comes from foundation. The businesses that move fastest invest heavily in Level 1 — documentation, process clarity, governance. What feels slow at the start compounds into speed later.
3
Fix the weakest link first.Your overall maturity is your lowest dimension score. The model tells you exactly what to work on — not just “you’re a 2.”
4
Level 5 is a direction, not a destination. Most businesses operate at Level 3–4. The goal isn’t to reach Level 5 — it’s to keep moving, keep measuring, and keep the bottleneck from holding everything back.
